남아프리카에서 열렸던 2026년도 GMC 총회를 잘 마쳤습니다. 일주일간 (어떤 날은 하루 13시간을!) 회의실에 앉아서 수백개의 안건을 처리한다는 것이 결코 쉽지 않은 일인데 400명의 대의원들이 성실하게 그 일을 감당하는 것을 보면서 많은 감동을 받았습니다.
저희 한미연회에서는 저와 이번에 감독으로 선출되신 이성현 목사님, 그리고 평신도 대표로 디트로이트의 백유진 권사님과 플로리다의 김성수 장로님이 대의원으로 수고해 주셨고, LA에 사시는 손기호 장로님께서 Alternate 대의원으로, 그리고 류계환 총감리사님이 함께 총회에 참여했습니다.
이번 총회에서 400여개의 입법안을 다루고 8명의 새 감독을 선출하고 감리교 역사상 150년만에 새로운 신앙 고백서를 채택하는 등 많은 일이 있었습니다.
또한 이번 총회에는 대의원들 배우자의 참여도 많았는데 총회를 돕는 안내사역, 중보기도 사역, 그리고 총회 기간동안 있었던 단기선교 사역등에 활발히 참여 주셔서 감사하고 자랑스러웠습니다.
총회가 끝난 뒤 머리도 식힐 겸 류계환 총감리사님 부부와 케이프 타운에 와 있습니다. 2~3일 여기서 보내고 오는 목요일에 아프리카를 떠나 금요일 오후에 스프링스에 도착하게 됩니다. 집을 떠난 지 열흘이 넘으니 집 생각이 많이 나네요. 다들 평안하시죠? 그리운 한미교회에서 곧 뵙도록 하겠습니다. 그동안 기도해 주셔서 감사드립니다!

We have successfully concluded the 2026 GMC General Conference here in South Africa. It was certainly not easy to sit in a conference room for an entire week—some days for as long as 13 hours!—and deal with hundreds of legislative matters. But I was deeply impressed to see nearly 400 delegates faithfully carrying out this important responsibility.
From our Korean American Annual Conference, Rev. Jonathan Lee, who was elected bishop at this General Conference, and I served as clergy delegates. Exhorter Eugene Baik from Detroit and Elder Sungsoo Kim from Florida served as lay delegates. Elder Kiho Son from Los Angeles participated as an alternate delegate, and our Conference Superintendent Rev. Kevin Ryu, also attended the General Conference with us.
A great deal took place at this General Conference. We considered around 400 legislative petitions, elected eight new bishops, and adopted a new Confession of Faith for the first time in 150 years of Methodist history.
Many spouses of the delegates also participated in the General Conference. They served in various ways, including hospitality ministry, intercessory prayer, and short-term mission work during the conference. I was very grateful and proud to see them serving so faithfully.
After the General Conference, my wife and I came to Cape Town with Rev. and Mrs. Ryu to relax and clear our heads a little. We will spend two or three days here, leave Africa this Thursday, and arrive back in the Springs on Friday afternoon.
It has now been more than ten days since I left Colorado, and I am really beginning to miss home. I hope everyone is doing well! I look forward to seeing you soon at our beloved KAMC. Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers!
