Last week, I returned from leading a revival at Grace Global Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. The church will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, and we had a wonderful time of worship and spiritual renewal. As I drove home after the revival, I found myself thinking, “Just seven hours away from us, God's wonderful grace has been flowing through this church for the past 39 years, and I never even knew it!” It reminded me once again that God is at work not only through our church but through so many other churches as well.

This weekend, we are having a joint revival here in Colorado Springs. Rev. Sung Chul Lee, who served as senior pastor of Dallas Central Methodist Church, one of the largest Korean churches in Dallas, for 33 years before his retirement, has been bringing us wonderful messages each day, filling our hearts with God's grace. Eight of the twelve Korean churches here in Colorado Springs have been participating in this revival, making it a truly blessed gathering.

As I counted them, I realized that there are about 12 Korean churches here in Colorado Springs: 4 Methodist churches, 3 Baptist churches, 2 Presbyterian churches, 2 Full Gospel churches, and 1 independent church. It is not always easy to bring all 12 churches together for a joint event like this. Each church has its own circumstances and challenges, and sometimes working together can be difficult. But that makes it all the more joyful and meaningful when we do come together like this.

I was baptized and raised in a Presbyterian church. During my teenage years, I attended all-night prayer meetings at a Full Gospel church, where I experienced God's grace in powerful ways. Then, during my college years, I became involved in a Methodist campus ministry, which eventually led me to become a Methodist pastor. And now I have been serving as a Methodist pastor for 33 years! Perhaps that is why, whenever I meet Presbyterian pastors, I feel as though I am meeting someone from my hometown. When I meet Full Gospel pastors, their passion and enthusiasm stir my heart once again. And when I meet fellow Methodists, I am always thankful for the comfort and encouragement of being among people I know I can lean on. So I am simply grateful that we have this opportunity to come together for a wonderful revival with pastors and church members from different denominations.

I was especially thankful that the praise team from a recently formed interchurch praise ministry led worship on the first evening of the revival. For the past year or so, young people who share a passion for praising God have been gathering once a month, holding praise nights at several churches around the city, including ours. It was such a joy to see this group lead us in praise as we began our joint revival.

Of course, there were also some things that made me a little sad. Only our church and one Baptist church were able to provide choirs for the special music during the revival. As a result, our choir was asked to sing twice. While I was grateful for their willingness to serve, it also reminded me of the challenges many churches are facing these days.

In the midst of all this, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make this revival possible: ushers, Praise Team, Media Team, Choir and others for their faithful service. What a blessing it is that we can work together! I am truly thankful to God for this wonderful joint revival and for the opportunity to work together for His glory. Hallelujah!
