여러분의 기도 가운데 아프리카 총회를 잘 마치고 지난 금요일 콜로라도 스프링스로 무사히 돌아왔습니다. 그동안 설교를 비롯한 여러 예배 순서를 맡아 주시며, 이런저런 교회의 모임과 사역을 위해 수고해 주신 여러분께 감사를 드리며, 특별히 교회의 전반적인 사역을 감당해 주신 김성태 목사님께 감사를 드립니다.

지난 수요일에 페루의 홍종애 선교사님께서 콜로라도 스프링스를 방문해 주셨습니다. 오시자마자 수요 예배 말씀을 전해주셨고, 오늘 주일 예배 1부와 2부에서 또한 말씀을 전해 주시겠는데, 귀한 말씀을 전해주심에 감사를 드립니다. 작년에 페루에 비전트립을 갔을 때 여러가지로 수고해 주신 것을 생각하면 제가 여기서 맞아 드려야 했는데, 대신 선교부장님과 작년 페루 비전팀 여러분이 수고를 해 주셔서 이 또한 감사를 드립니다. 선교사님은 월요일 아침에 시애틀로 떠나시게 됩니다.

지난 주일까지 모금한 네팔을 위한 선교헌금이 5,249불이 모금되었습니다. 감사드립니다! 네팔에 계신 구복음 선교사님께서 이미 함께 협력하는 다른 선교사님들과 함께 피해 지역을 2번이나 다녀오셨다고 들었습니다. 참혹한 피해현장에 마음 아파하시면서 앞으로 구호품이 확보되는 대로 계속해서 방문해서 도움의 손길을 나눌 계획이라고 하는데, 여러분이 모아 주신 귀한 정성 또한 감당하기 힘든 고난 가운데 있는 네팔 형제 자매들에게 귀한 힘이 되리라 믿습니다. 다시 한번 감사를 드립니다.

45주년을 맞는 내년에 네팔과 튀르키예를 돌아오는 단기선교 및 비전트립을 계획 중에 있습니다. 다음 주일쯤 자세한 설명회를 가지도록 하겠습니다. 관심 있으신 분들의 많은 참여를 바라며, 궁금하신 것은 저나 김선희 선교부장님께 문의해 주시면 되겠습니다.

가을이 시작되는 절기인 “백로”가 지난 월요일이었습니다. 낮과 밤의 길이가 다시 같아지는 추분과 가을 명절인 추석도 2주밖에 남지 않아 이제 본격적인 가을로 접어드는 것 같습니다. 유난히 더웠던 여름의 열기가 아직도 남아있어 가을이 온다는 생각이 쉬 들지 않지만 어느새 그렇게 가을이 성큼 다가왔네요. 더운 여름에 선교 바자회, 호피 단기선교, 중고등부 수양회등 많은 사역을 감당하시느라 수고가 많으셨습니다! 그 모든 수고에 풍요로운 열매로 채워 주시는 하나님의 은혜가 풍성한 추수의 계절이 되기를 또한 축원드립니다.

아프리카에서 돌아오면서 남아공화국에서만 나는 차(tea)가 있다기에 몇 봉지 사가지고 왔습니다. 루이보스라는 tea 인데 아프리카말로 “붉은 덤불”이란 뜻으로 남아공 케이프타운 근처의 고산지대에서만 자생한다고 합니다. AI에 물어 보니 “카페인이 없고 세포노화를 막고 면역력을 키워주는 항산화 성분이 풍부하며, 미네랄이 풍부해 신경안정과 불면증 개선에 도움이 되기에 남아공에서는 많이 마신다”고 하는데 ... 오늘 친교 시간에 저희가 늘 마시던 보리차 대신 “루이보스” 차를 대접할까 합니다. 루이보스 차의 은은한 맛과 함께 새로운 몸과 맘으로 가을을 맞이하실 수 있기를 바랍니다. 감사한 마음으로 사랑하는 한미교회 여러분을 두 손 들어 축복합니다! 집에 오니 감~사하네요!

With your prayers, my wife and I returned home safely from the General Conference held in Africa last Friday. I want to thank everyone who carried on the many tasks of leading worship services and preaching as well as all those who faithfully took care of the various ministries of our church while I was away. I especially want to thank Pastor Daniel Kim for overseeing the overall ministry of our church during my absence.

Last Wednesday, Missionary Jong-Ae Hong from Peru arrived in Colorado Springs. As soon as she arrived, she shared the message at our Wednesday evening service, and today she will also preach at both our first and second Sunday services. We are very grateful to have her with us and to hear the message God has given her. When I think of all that she did for us during our vision trip to Peru last year, I really wish I could have been here to welcome her myself. But I am thankful that our Missions Chair and the members of last year’s Peru Vision Team have taken such good care of her in my place. Missionary Hong will leave for Seattle on Monday morning.

As of last Sunday, we have collected $5,249 in mission offerings for Nepal. Thank you so much! I heard that Missionary Koo in Nepal has already visited the affected areas twice, together with other missionaries he works with. Heartbroken by the terrible devastation they have seen, they plan to continue visiting and helping as more relief supplies become available. I believe the gifts you have given will be a great source of strength and encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Nepal who are going through such overwhelming hardship. Once again, thank you!

Next year, as our church celebrates its 45th anniversary, we are planning a short-term mission and vision trip to Nepal and Türkiye. We will have a more detailed informational meeting sometime next Sunday. I hope many of you who are interested will consider joining us. The autumn equinox, when day and night are once again about the same length, and Chuseok, Korea’s autumn holiday, are now only about two weeks away. It seems that we are finally entering the heart of the fall season. The heat of this unusually hot summer is still lingering, so it may not quite feel like fall yet, but somehow fall has already come upon us. You have all worked so hard through this hot summer with many ministries—the Mission Bazaar, the Hopi short-term mission trip, the Youth Retreat, and so much more. Thank you! My prayer is that this season of harvest will also be a season in which God fills all our faithful work with abundant and beautiful fruit.

On my way home from Africa, I heard that there was a tea that grows only in South Africa, so I brought a few bags home with me. It is called rooibos, which means “red bush” in Afrikaans, and it grows naturally in the mountainous region near Cape Town. I asked AI about it, and it told me that rooibos is caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants and minerals, and that it is widely enjoyed in South Africa. So today, during our fellowship time, instead of our usual barley tea, we would like to serve you some rooibos tea. I hope that as we enjoy its gentle flavor, we can welcome this new season with a refreshed body and spirit.
